“I like to tell stories, talk about the songs, tell you where they came from. They all come from a real place, so some of them deserve explaining”

A Journey Born from Loss, Fueled by Passion

Kevin Daniel’s path to the stage wasn’t a straight shot. A lifelong musician, he cut his teeth on classical saxophone and piano before picking up a guitar at 13. But it wasn’t until a devastating personal tragedy—the loss of both parents in a 2013 plane crash—that music became his true north. “Everything about my life changed, including my priorities,” he says. “I knew that I had to do the things I cared about most, which was music.”
What followed was a whirlwind. Trading his original plans of being a writer in New York City for the unpredictability of the music industry, Daniel poured himself into songwriting and performance. He released his first record in high school, but it was in the years following his move to Nashville that he truly found his voice.
The Craft of Songwriting: Writing Through the Noise
Kevin Daniel isn’t the kind of artist who waits for inspiration to strike. “If you have to wait for inspiration, you’re not doing it right,” he says. “You need to write every day, or at least every week, even when you’re not feeling it.”
His process is a mix of discipline and gut instinct. A strong melody often leads the way, followed by lyrics that hit straight to the heart. “I ask myself, what am I trying to say? Will people get that? And can I say it in a way that hits the heart and has a catchy tune?” It’s an approach that has served him well, leading to songs that resonate deeply with listeners.
Live and Unfiltered: What to Expect at Texas Music Cafe
For Kevin Daniel, a great live show is about more than just playing the hits. “I try to be authentic. What you see is what you get. I am Kevin Daniel on stage and Kevin Daniel off stage.” That means storytelling, connection, and a set that balances raw emotion with the energy to make you move.
“I like to tell stories, talk about the songs, tell you where they came from. They all come from a real place, so some of them deserve explaining,” he says. “We also like to rock.”
If you’re expecting a polished, overly rehearsed set, think again. Daniel’s performances thrive on spontaneity, emotion, and a little bit of unpredictability—like that time he played Subaru Winterfest at Keystone Resort in Colorado. “Right when we started the set, it started snowing, hard. It snowed our entire performance—my guitar was covered in snow, everything was. It was one of the most beautiful shows I have ever played, and I remember stepping back, thinking, ‘This is amazing.’”
Chasing the Dream in a Changing Industry
Making it in the music industry isn’t easy, and Kevin Daniel knows it. “I don’t do that very well, lol,” he jokes about balancing artistic vision with commercial demands. While he’s working toward a publishing deal and songwriting credits, for now, the road is where he makes his living. “The best way to make money for me is to tour. I need to get better at making mailbox money—songwriting credits, syncing my music in movies and TV. It’s very, very hard to make money as a musician.”
Despite the challenges, Daniel isn’t chasing fame—he just wants to make a life out of what he loves. “I don’t need to be famous or rich, I just need to sustain my life, and maybe that of a family one day. To be a full-time musician and live respectably, for me, that would be a dream.”
What’s Next: Heartbreaks and Hurricanes

Kevin Daniel’s upcoming record, Heartbreaks and Hurricanes, might just be his most personal work yet. “The title comes from my upbringing in eastern North Carolina, where I experienced a lot of both,” he says. Produced by Grammy-nominated Bobby Holland in Nashville, the album features a dream team of musicians who’ve played with legends like Eric Church, Red Clay Strays, and even Dolly Parton. “These people are the best there is, and they were in a studio with me. It was crazy.”
While the album doesn’t have a release date yet, the rough mixes are done, and fans can expect something powerful, heartfelt, and undeniably Kevin Daniel.
