In the bustling Texas music scene, a fresh voice is emerging, captivating audiences with soulful melodies and genuine storytelling. LYDA, whose name aptly means “love,” is making waves with her unique blend of country, alternative, and pop. This rising star’s journey from a young dreamer to an independent artist embarking on multi-state tours is a testament to her passion and determination.

Born with music in her veins, LYDA recalls singing before she could even talk. “My family tells me that I have been singing since before I could even talk,” she shares with a smile. Her pivotal moment came at the tender age of nine when she attended her first concert – Jessica Simpson at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It was then that LYDA realized her calling was on stage.

“I use music as an outlet and as a way to express myself.”

The path to becoming a musician began in earnest during her adolescence. At 12, she started penning her own songs, and by 17, she had taught herself guitar, enabling her to perform at local venues. This self-driven approach to learning and creating has been a hallmark of LYDA’s career.

When asked about her creative process, LYDA’s eyes light up. “I am my most inspired when I am going through something good or bad,” she explains. “I use music as an outlet and as a way to express myself.” For LYDA, songwriting is a magical process of translating emotions into melodies, finding it easier to explain herself through song than spoken words.

LYDA’s live performances are intimate affairs, offering audiences more than just music. “I love sharing my music with people and I love explaining the inspiration or significance of each song,” she says. With a touch of humor inherited from her mother, LYDA’s shows often include laughter alongside the lyrics. “My mom thinks I should have been a comedian,” she chuckles.

Her career has already seen some notable highlights. Performing at the iconic House of Blues in Houston stands out as a memorable achievement. Even setbacks, like the cancellation of her scheduled opening act at Magnolia Market’s Spring at The Silos 2020 due to COVID-19, haven’t dampened her spirit. Recently, LYDA took a bold step by booking and executing her own acoustic tour across four states, driving from Texas through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee before returning home. “I think embarking on that adventure was full of growth and bravery,” she reflects, pride evident in her voice.

Like many emerging artists, LYDA grapples with balancing artistic integrity and commercial demands. The omnipresence of social media in the music industry presents a unique challenge. “If you aren’t constantly creating content, you will be completely invisible to anyone who matters,” she notes. However, LYDA is determined to forge her own path. “I am beginning to just do whatever I possibly can to remain original to who I am, and remain creative at the same time,” she asserts.

Looking to the future, LYDA dreams big. She aspires to collaborate with established artists, join successful tours, and hear her music on Texas radio. A record deal is on her wish list, but not at the expense of her artistic vision.

Currently, LYDA is focused on two original songs in production. “Thinking About You,” produced in Galveston by Jordi Montoya at Hook South Studios, is nearing completion. Another track, “Here We Go,” is being produced in Nashville by Chris Condon. LYDA envisions this song becoming a staple in Texas dance halls, perfectly suited for a two-step across Lone Star State dance floors.

The story behind her stage name adds another layer to LYDA’s narrative. It’s her birth name, chosen by her parents in honor of a family friend who greatly influenced their lives. “The name ‘Lyda’ means love,” she explains, a fitting moniker for an artist whose music comes straight from the heart.

As LYDA continues to carve her niche in the music industry, her commitment to authenticity and passion for her craft shine through. With new music on the horizon and a growing fan base, LYDA is poised to make a lasting impact on the Texas music scene and beyond. For music lovers seeking genuine artistry and heartfelt performances, LYDA is undoubtedly an artist to watch.
